A lot of research has shown that while schools think that their students have enough qualifications to compete in work, managers complaint that young workers don\u2019t have the skills they need. An explanation for that gap is soft skills.<\/span><\/p>\n

In every profession there are too many professionals that have the required hard skills like degrees and diplomas. The chosen one will be the one that has characteristics and abilities that are not directly related to that work placement. Those skills are called soft skills and include interpersonal skills like empathy, flexibility, diplomacy, negotiating, respect and teamwork\u00a0\u00a0 and communication abilities like nonverbal communication, confidence, open mindedness and clarity.<\/span><\/p>\n

The role of the teacher is to incorporate techniques and procedures to help the students practice and learn their soft skills. These should not be a new subject. In every subject teachers can make students practice their soft skills by using group projects, roll playing, work place simulations etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who can benefit most:<\/span><\/p>\n

– Teachers of all age groups and specialties.<\/span>
\n– Education professionals, such as Inspectors, Advisers, Managers, Principals, Career Officers and other professional interested in education and learning.<\/span><\/p>\n

Methodology:<\/span><\/p>\n

The trainees will get a basic understanding with a short presentation for each skill. Then they will learn and practice the skills through experiential learning, testing and trying by themselves the methodologies that they can later pass on to their students. Before moving on to the next skill there is a discussion about the importance of each skill and how to apply the techniques in their school environment and their local conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n
