MATHEMATICS AND CONNECTIONS WITH OTHER SCIENCES ~ EXAMPLES FROM ANCIENT GREECE

Erasmus Plus Mathematics Courses With Examples From Ancient Greece.

MATHEMATICS AND CONNECTIONS WITH OTHER SCIENCES.

EXAMPLES FROM ANCIENT GREECE

What is the connection between Mathematics and Physics, Music, Arts, Architecture and Medicine?

The most common question we hear from students is: “Why do we  need Math?”    Or “I hate math. Why do we need so many Math courses at school? How is this related to real life?”

Travelling through time, we meet Archimedes, Thales, Pythagoras, Apollonius of Perga and discover the connection between Mathematics and Arts, Sciences and their application in everyday life. During this course, the participants will learn, through real-life examples, strategies and techniques to inspire their student and make their lesson challenging and exciting.

The purpose of this course is to transfer unusual, practical knowledge of Math from experts to educators and then from educator to their students and schools. The course provides teachers methods, lesson plans and worksheet in different fields of mathematics that will inspire and intrigue students. Participants will think, design, play and create because Math is fun!

Who can benefit most:

– Mathematicians or other teachers who teach Maths at schools or other subjects related to mathematics.
– Education professionals, such as School Chancellors, Managers, Principals, Career Officers and other professionals interested in education, learning and Math.

Methodology:

The trainees will get a basic understanding with a short presentation for the combination of mathematics and other sciences. They will learn through examples the methodologies and they will pass on them to their students. Before moving on to the next example there is a discussion about the importance of all and how to apply the techniques in their school environment and their individual special class demanded needs. This course gives the participants the opportunity to plan, create and play with Mathematics.

Aims:

This course will enable participants to:

  • Learn about ancient problems and discover the way scientific methods have been evolved
  • To give meaning to the procedures of mathematics analysis and the use of algorithms
  • Learn through examples the fundamental role of mathematics in real life
  • Develop the diary lesson plan with worksheets, practical examples and modern tools
  • Use applications and strategies in classroom making lesson challenging and amusing
  • See mathematics with a different view through arts, nature and modern sciences
